Avice Meehan joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as vice president for communications and public affairs in March 2002 from New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she had held a similar position for eight years. Meehan, 50, has a background in communications and journalism. She served as press secretary for Lowell P. Weicker Jr. in his independent bid for Governor of Connecticut in 1990 and as a senior advisor in the administration from 1991-94. Meehan was a newspaper reporter and editor in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York for 12 years. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
